Celebrating the Legend's Legacy... The MSD show

Born on 7 July 1981 in a small city of Ranchi Mahendra Singh Dhoni often called Mahi or captain cool by his teammates and obviously by his fans which I think is pretty much the whole world. He made his debut ODI international debut in December 2004 against Bangladesh and test debut a year later against Sri Lanka. 

It was a very calculated risk taken by the selectors and some of the senior players to give the huge burden of captaincy to MSD just before the 2007 T20 world cup. Then there was no turning back for Dhoni, he lifted the first-ever T20 world cup, he became the ICC ODI player of the year in 2008 and 2009 and he is the first player to win this consecutively, he also received the highest-ranking sports award Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. He is the only cricketer after Kapil sir who has the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel. 

He got the test captaincy in 2008 and then in 2009 it was only under his captaincy India managed to reach at the top of the ICC rankings for the first time. He is the player who taught India how to end games with winning results. Dhoni always favored the process over the end result and that's why he is Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

2007 T20 world cup made this section of the game very popular in India which led to the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This was the time when MS was gaining his popularity in India and this was evident in the auction also he was the costliest player then who was sold to Chennai Super Kings. He showed his worth and the team reach the finals but lost Rajasthan Royals in a thriller. But MS being MS never wanted to stop, he thrived to win the IPL trophy for his franchise and as said by the King of Romance, the thing you thrive the most from your heart, it is destined to meet you at the end whatever happens and he won the IPL trophy in 2010.


And the year came for which every cricket fan in India watches this game. It was the 2011 World Cup and it was being conducted in India. Because of the brilliant performances from Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and the rest of the team India were through to the finals. Sri Lanka gave us a target of 275 odd runs and for India to win the world cup, they had to create a history. MS came to a position where the situation was very dubious. He took the responsibility and finished off the things in style. India lifts the world cup after 28 long years. And just after two years, he took the last ICC trophy which was remaining in his kit: Champions Trophy. And that's how he became the only captain to have all ICC trophies under his kit till date.

I know that I have left many things about our beloved MSD such as his great batting sense, his presence of mind in the field, his lightning-fast hands behind the stumps, his cool nature, his last ball six-hitting ability even in the crunch situations, etc. etc. etc. I left all these things not because I forgot them to mention but I always see him as a leader, and there is a great difference between a leader and a captain. He is and he will always be our "Thala".

Those days are gone when parents were regularly asking or I must say instructing their children to stop using smartphones, laptops, tablets, etc. Actually, this was a punitive crime in their sight. End of Dhoni era : MS Dhoni retires

Legends come and go silently but they leave their unmatchable legacy behind and this is what MS Dhoni did, and this is what we expect only Dhoni could do. MS Dhoni, the former Indian cricket team captain, and believe me it really hurts me when I use the word former, has taken announced his retirement from international cricket, although he will continue to play IPL for his franchise Chennai Super Kings .
